I always breathe a sigh of relief when the accounts are done, and another when they have been ‘examined’. This year the pressure is on with the annual parochial meeting on 13th March, when it can be over a month later. A few highlights (obviously I lead a sad life if accounts can have highlights) but here they are.
Yes, people are very generous with their time and giving. Rather like today’s epistle reading (1 Corinthians Chapter 12, Verse 12) we need everyone to make All Saints work, each with their different skills.
Fund raising events can be very hard work. Thanks to all those who helped or attended in 2015. These included the ‘Brunch’ Club, with the second Saturday of each Autumn and Winter month being a fantastic opportunity to chat and eat an amazing breakfast, rounded off with a scrumptious cake.
One way and another, we gave over £1,500 to Missions and Charities. We also paid our promised £28,000 to the Diocese.
We received nearly £4,000 from the Inland Revenue because of Gift Aid.
One Mission Society we supported in 2016 was The Bible Society. They;
translate the Bible
produce the Bible
distribute the Bible
use the Bible to help with literacy
help people engage with the Bible
are advocates of the Bible.
One of their current projects is translating and distributing bibles in South Sudan, using words that the people will understand and that they can relate to.
Their website biblesociety.org.uk includes an amazing search facility!
